This May 2015, I’m one of four featured artists at Amapola Gallery, an artists’ cooperative located at 205 Romero NW in historic Old Town Albuquerque.
Emeralds prompted the title for this show, “Green Glimpses.” Amapola Gallery highlights a gemstone for each month this year. Emeralds are said to bring harmony in all areads of one’s life. (NOTE TO SELF: C’mon May!)
Four artists participate in the May show: watercolorist Carol Sparks, oil painter David Linden, pencil artist Leroy Velasquez and me, Mary Ellen Merrigan, bead artist.
In preparation for the event, I’ve been experimenting with some beaded necklaces in green.
Consider this vintage painted emerald glass. Faceted yellow-green glass complements the larger beads and a matte green round spacer adds a great finishing touch. Hmmmmm. Maybe I’ll keep this one.
On the other hand, my love affair with black and white continues. These zebra stripe beads coupled with bone, Tibetan Black and Green, and green Ghana glass spacers appeal in a big way to my sense of style.
Summer is a perfect time for fluorite, and this little necklace does it well. Could this work into my wardrobe?
Maybe if I added just a bit more coral. Those antique Chinese coral-colored glass beads are yummy!
Oh, let’s forget green entirely. I’ll go for red coral. How’s this for the May theme?
Yikes! I’ve gotta run. Turns out I’ve talked myself into keeping everyone of these fun creations so I have to make more for May.
I’m proud to be one of the featured artists for May at Amapola Gallery, an artists’ cooperative.
Join me at Amapola Gallery 1pm – 3pm Sunday May 3, 2015 for the opening reception for “Green Glimpses.” I look forward to seeing you there and showing you my latest works.
