Kurt Wuerker, a copper artist, and I would love to greet you at our Featured Artist Show “Nature/Metal/Artistry” at Amapola Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque, Friday, August 4, 2023. Hours are 10am to 6pm.
My handmade chains, a perfect expression of rigid metal yielding to Nature’s natural fluidity are designed to delight. A dark patina on the sterling silver emphasizes an interplay of light and shadow.
New to this show are a series that combine baroque pearls and sterling, copper leaf as well as enameled earrings, and beaded antlers. These New Mexico mule deer antlers are embellished with brilliantly-colored tiny glass beads whose design reflects the curves and nuances of the horn itself.
In addition I will showcase my distinctive vintage African trade beads assembled with deep flavors of ornamentation that highlight visual and tactile detail.
Metal artist Kurt Wuerker ‘s copper pueblos and mirrors are surrounded by or artfully draped in copper leaves and branches. Kurt cleverly fabricates whimsical dragonflies, birds (including superb quail), cactus, leaves and vines.
Like me, Kurt also enjoys exploring the patina creation process and its possibilities that creates his signature work. As part of his constant re-invention and expansion of design, he is experiments with application of glass enamels to copper. Come see his newly-designed pieces for this show that include a twisted and gnarled tree branch pattern of copper with enameled copper leaves.

We, and other like-minded artists, find joy in sharing art with the public, in the cooperative atmosphere at Amapola Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque, sharing the work required to do so.
